Hi! I am a computer science PhD student working in human-computer interaction. My specific interests revolve around how people interact with and understand complex concepts and information, improving data literacy, and improving developer tooling. I am currently at the Elicit Lab, where we investigate how to design the next-generation of human-computer interactions to improve creativity, awareness, and critical thinking.

I graduated with my bachelor’s from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Business and Mathematics. I completed my Masters at George Washington University in Data Science, where worked at the Hive Lab under Dr. Raja Mazumder, building open source projects aimed at large scale biomedical data harmonization and standardization.

Interests

Data is pervasive. The collection, use, and exposure to vasts amounts of data in our everyday lives is unavoidable. This shapes our privacy, beliefs, and interactions in many unappreciable ways. I hope to research ways these challenges can be alleviated through more thoughtful design and tools for understanding and working with complex information. I focus on three core areas: investigating how people build mental models of complex systems, improving data literacy for non-experts, and creating more effective developer tooling. By improving the human-computer interfaces to data and privacy, I believe we can empower individuals to move from being passive consumers to active, critical thinkers.
